Where Did January Go?

Well, it's Wednesday ... no wait! It's Thursday! And it's almost the end of January!! How did that happen? I've been a lazy blogger this week. Our little cemetery drama is still playing out and it tires me to be in battle. My dad was probably the most passive person I've ever met - he'd avoid a conflict at all costs. I'm not quite like that - I have learned to stand up for myself, and if someone does wrong to me or a loved one, I'll speak my mind. But I'm really peaceloving and I have to admit that carrying on a conflict for any period of time exhausts me! This issue with the cemetery is a matter of principle, so we are seeing it through. The Secretary of VA Affairs for New Mexico is supposed to get back to us today. We'll see, and I'll let you know!

Otherwise, today is a writing day for me, so I must away! Hope you have a good one.

  2. I would have done the same at you and your husband - take walks in the Veterans' Cemetery. There just isn't one near me. My dad is buried in one in middle Georgia though and I would think it would be a wonderful place to walk.

That director sounds as if he has let some officiousness go to his head. I hope you get a good outcome from this.

  3. Delores - :-) that was cute - and thanks.

Lynn - Thank you. It's a wonderful place for contemplation, and we've never encountered this before. We thought that it was actually encouraged! Look at Arlington National!

  4. Yes, let us know! That was just crazy. Conflict exhausts me, too. Hang in there. ;)

  5. Dear Melissa,
Please do let us know what happens when you talk with the VA secretary.

And....your book arrived today so I have reading it to look forward to.

    Peace.

  6. Dear Melissa....I read your comment on Becky's blog and got a kick out of it.

You know what? I hated broccoli, too, until I found a way to make it that really is yummy. I put pieces of it on a cookie sheet, drizzle on olive oil, salt, and pepper, and pop it into a 450 degree oven for about 10 to 15 minutes. Roasted broccoli! It is actually delish.

Couldn't believe that guy in the cemetery. It wasn't like you were vandals, turning over gravestones, you know? Wow. I think he needs to get a job somewhere else.

Good luck, Melissa! Take care. Susan P.S. I'm in western Massachusetts and read how you are taking a trip to the east. How exciting.

  7. Rita and Dee - Dick plans to call the guy tomorrow...thanks for the good thoughts.

Dee - yay! I hope you enjoy it.

Susan - thank you for coming by and for the broccoli tip. I think we grew up with Mom boiling everything (English :-) and it wasn't until later that I found so many things taste better when you brown or roast them!

I'll pop by your blog - I'm from Andover, MA and my sister lives in Princeton, MA

  9. I am basically peaceful but will stand up for myself or (more often) a loved one if I think it is essential. Good luck. Cemetaries are wonderful places to walk. Often beautiful. Always a place to gain perspective.

  10. Tonja, yes - it is.

TEC - beautifully put. We are sad to have had this taken away from us. Hopefully it will resolve in our favor.

  11. I'm sorry you are still dealing with this cemetery issues, sounds very frustrating and I hope you will be able to get it resolved soon.

I had to laugh at the title of your post as I was just thinking the same thing! I feel like Christmas was just a few days ago. This month has been a blur.

Hope you had a successful writing day! :)
