Making it easy and getting stuff (almost) free ...

I've been eligible for a phone upgrade for quite a while now, but I hadn't done it because then I would have had to get a more expensive phone plan and data package that I don't really need. But now that we are going to be on the road, it makes sense for me to have a Smart Phone that can do computer-ish things when we are without wifi. And, RVPainter, who doesn't have a cell phone, will need to have one so that we can call each other if one of us goes off somewhere and needs to get in touch.

So! I am getting an IPhone! And RVPainter will get my old Samsung. With my upgrade and another $50 discount that I'm getting because the folks at Verizon apparently like me a lot, the phone is costing me only $49.99. That's practically FREE! We will have to have a family plan and get the data package, but when all is said and done, it's not too bad at all.

I guess it will look like this :-)

I'm tempted to say "I won't need all those apps," but I think that there will actually be some apps that will be very helpful to us. It's all part of Making Things Easy - I think the IPhone will make things easier for us and of course we do need to have a phone for each of us.

If you IPhone users know of apps that you think would helpful for people who are "on the road" a lot - please let me know. I'm hoping there is an app for finding all of Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives spots on our route!

This diner is in Brunswick, Maine - I've eaten here.

Reds' Eats is in Wiscasset, Maine. It's more of a "dive" because it's not a diner and you can't "drive-in,"
you can only "walk up." When we lived in East Boothbay, Maine, RVPainter did a painting of Red's
with a scene like this and we had prints made up that sold really well. We had a gallery at our house
in East Boothbay, I don't know if I mentioned that before. We had a ball with it.
It was called The School Street Gallery, because it was a gallery and it was on School Street.  Clever, huh?

  1. Yo DW - your new phone will come in handy on the road - a nice addition to our Make It Easy mode of operation. Thank you for my phone ( I think. ) I shall wait for it to ring - I don't plan on giving the # out to anyone - except you - so when it rings I'll know it's you. Pretty smart EH!!!

I hope I remember to carry it with me and keep it charged - As you know, I'm not a big fan of cell phones.

All the bits and pieces are starting to fall into place. You'll be on the road before you know it.

  3. Wow! I wish you better luck and figuring out a smart phone than I have had. I LOVE mine, don't get me wrong, but I probably don't know a tenth of what it can do--LOL! I put off getting my free one for two years. They're wonderful! :)

  4. Have fun with your new toy!

I think that selling paintings from your own home is so much more fun than a gallery.

  6. Delores, Rita, Stephanie and Inger - thanks for the notes. I'm the kind of person who can go without one of these phones, and then get one and be totally into it! I'm sure I won't use it to its full capabilities though.

  7. Dear Melissa,
I've never even seen an iPhone or an iPad. Never done facebook or twittered. But this year I'm committed to entering the 21st century.

Good luck with your new toy!

    Peace,
    Dee

  9. Hi Melissa,
I'm new here, so forgive me if I'm not up to speed.
Already I'm jealous, you are having a new Iphone! And so cheap...over here in the UK, those phones are very expensive. I'm talking hundreds of pounds.

There are lots of app programmes coming out all the time too, I imagine a lot of writer friendly ones. I think you'll soon be hooked!

    1. They are expensive here too, but I benefitted from having been on my plan for a long time and being eligible for the upgrade. I would NEVER have spent the $$$ for full price!

    1. This will really be our "life" for at least the next year. It's not something that I ever though I would do - being a homebody! But I've had lots of nice homes now, and hubby turns 72!!! and life is short. So off we go!
