How do I Do a Blog Tour?

Hello dear friends! I need your help...

So my book will be available this fall, probably in September. I need to do a blog tour throughout the fall, but I have to confess I'm not really sure how to go about this. Is it as simple as asking my blogger friends to host me in some way on their blog, with an interview, or a plug for the book, or a guest post?

I'm new to this, so I could use a little help from my friends.

Guidance and advice, anyone?

Many thanks!

  2. Hi Melissa! As far as I know...that's what you do! I have lots of writer/blog friends who do this kind of thing often. I've done it a time or two, and you know I'll be happy to be your Blog Host, too! I'll let you know more by e-mail.

  3. Thanks Paul and Becky! You are officially on my list. I guess I'll gather my posse and we'll set up dates and topics. You guys are the best.

  4. Hey Melissa! I did my first one last fall and was fortunate to take the Blog Book Tours class just prior to my tour.
Make a list of potential blog hosts - those that attract your target audience and have high traffic as far as followers and comments, and include a mixture of sites. (Book bloggers as well as other authors and topic blogs.) Contact these bloggers one to three months ahead of time and suggest either a guest post, interview, book review, and/or giveaway. Two weeks, M-F, is usually best. My tour was a little longer and I nearly ran out of steam at the end. But it was a blast!
    Does that help?

  6. Good luck with this - it sounds challenging and fun. If I can help please let me know, though I haven't a large following. I'll be a 'reserve' if you like:-)

  7. Alex- perfect, just what I need to know. Laura and Jabblog, you are "BIG" in my eyes...:-) I'd love your help.

Okay, I'll start making my list, it's not too soon to start on it...

    Hugs to you all

  8. I think that's all you have to do too! Also, there is a HUGE book blogging community out there and many of them accept pitches for books to review. If you want to do something more formal and not worry about running it yourself my friend runs TLC book tours and she's awesome! (but it costs money, not sure how much) http://tlcbooktours.com/

  11. I don't even know what a blog tour IS, much less how to do one :) But you can count me in, if you need bloggy friends to have a visiting post or advert on.

  13. Hi Melissa,

Sounds like you have the right idea! I'm a new friend. =O) You found me via my Christmas blog, The Christmas Spirit. I would love to do a dual blog tour post for your new book, on the Christmas blog and my book blog, The True Book Addict. If you're doing it in September, I would love to do it on September 25th. I post at the Christmas blog every 25th of the month (Rudolph Day). And then, in turn, I would cross post it to my book blog on the same day. I have 70 followers right now at The Christmas Spirit and 400+ followers at my book blog. I did receive your email and if you'd like to discuss this with me further, please email me. I would also love to have you as a guest at The Christmas Spirit during my Christmas in July event this month, if you have time. Look forward to hearing from you again.

    Best,
    Michelle

  14. Hi Melissa - I'm new to your blog. Just found you through Twitter (Had to laugh at your post above. You're right. it's not so bad, once you get used to it!). I recently joined SavvyAuthors.com and noticed they have a program to help put authors who want to do a blog tour in touch with bloggers who want to host them. Might be useful for you. Best of luck.

  15. Hey Melissa! I can't give you any advice since I've never done this myself, but I'd be happy to help out if I can. It would be a treat to host you on your tour, or just read along as you go and cheer you on. :)
