World's Stupidest Product Packaging

I needed a rolling pin.
Here it is:

They anchored the cardboard product information UNDER the little handle.

NO, the handle doesn't unscrew, so you can't get it off by unscrewing the handle,
removing the cardboard and screwing the handle back on.

The cardboard is so tough, I couldn't cut it with scissors.
It took box cutters and pliers to remove the cardboard.

The worst packaging of course is the stuff that comes encased in that hard plastic that you can't cut through. Sometimes you have to stab it with a knife or get out your chain saw. And then when you finally break through, you are lucky not to slice an artery, the plastic is so hard and jagged.

I think that before a company puts a product out for sale, they should have to bring it to the company CEO and he/she should have his/her MOTHER try to remove the product from its packaging. There would be much less stupid packaging, I'll wager!

  1. You should have seen me trying to get into a box of chocolates yesterday - the tape needed scissors to break, and it going rather dicey at one stage :-)

I don't think I've ever bought a rolling pin - don't those things just appear in your kitchen drawers?

    1. A rolling pin is something one should only have to get once a lifetime - but my old one is in storage in Santa Fe! Some packaging is truly dangerous.

  2. I am sorry to read this, but you wrote it a little funny. Myself though, I don't fancy those little handles at the end. So I'd saw them off and presto, no more cardboard. Unless the wankers glued it on.

    1. My old pin had no handles - I liked it that way too :)

    2. I have my grandmother's pin. It's older than me and is one of my most cherished kitchen toys. I love it for all that it reminds me of, and how great it works.

What made you go with handles this time?

    3. It was the only kind they had - it wasn't a real kitchen store. So I just got what they had. :(

  3. Indeed any woman could improve on much of the packaging that it around. From the packaging that you cannot open to the multiple layers of unnecessary packaging...

    1. So much waste in the packaging - imagine how much lower the price could be!

One of my pet peeves :-)

  5. You really made me laugh! I used to work for a corporation and was part of the crew who made packaging decisions. I can tell you for certain that these folks overthink things. I mean, why oh why do we need to entomb a 4 dollar gadget in a 5 dollar hermetically sealed container that NO ONE can open without risking life and limb? Hope your rolling pin came out unscathed and that you enjoy making lots of tasty apple pies with it anyway!

    1. DEbora, so fun to hear from someone who has actually worked in this capacity - this is just a stupid one, but not one of the worst - those plastic tombs are dangerous! I always wonder what they are thinking - and hearing you say they overthink it explains everything. You made me smile big :)
