The Dreamcatchers are Still Catching Dreams

Just because we gave up our Dreamcatcher RV, that doesn't mean we've stopped catching dreams or looking for new adventures and experiences. Here in SW Florida, there is plenty to discover right in our own back yard, and we haven't even scratched the surface.

We're not really on vacation, but since last Friday we've been acting like it. We started with lunch out at a favorite local place called Deena's Delectables on Friday....

This is Deena:

And here I am eating one of her delectables:

On Saturday, we drove down to an art festival in Estero.....

Sunday we went to the movies to see the Monuments Men. I had high hopes for it but it wasn't very well done, despite all those good actors ....

Today, Monday, we drove an hour north to Siesta Key. Siesta Beach has been named the #1 beach in the U.S., so of course we wanted to check it out. It's a great beach:

I am happiest on a beach ... can you tell?

There were a bunch of Amish people at the beach today - the kids wore bathing suits but the grown-ups were fully dressed - women in ankle length dresses and men in pants with suspenders. Didn't stop them from going in the water though:

We thought Siesta Key was a great beach but it's not #1 in our book. Our #1 U.S. beach (not that we've seen all the beaches, mind you) is unquestionably Fort Pickens in Pensacola, Florida:

On the way home we stopped at Culver's for frozen custard:

Tomorrow is supposed to be another beautiful day so we are going to Boca Grande, another beautiful beach not far from here. Then it will be back to work on Wednesday ....

  2. Dreams should be on all our our 'must-haves' list. Love your beaches - but there are tooooo many people on them. My favourite beaches are almost deserted, at dawn. Or dusk.

    1. We agree! The first thing Dick said at Siesta Key was "There are WAY too many people here." That's why we like Fort Pickens - gorgeous beach but much less crowded. First time we were there, maybe only one or two others.

  3. Sounds like a fantastic couple of days. I love taking advantage of my local area... although my favourite place has not fared well in the current storms :-(

    1. So often people overlook the beauty and history right under their noses. When we moved to AZ, our realtor was a woman who had lived in AZ for 20 years, and never driven the 4 hours to go to the Grand Canyon! Nuts! I'm sorry about your favorite places - I know flooding has done a lot of damage.

  4. Hi Melissa - the whole storyline looks just wonderful .. for us storm lashed Brits, flooded out English .. drowned by the jet-stream that doesn't stop dumping the stuff!

Love the beaches, the food, the art, the crafts et al ... then that frozen custard .. looks delicious .. you both look well and that's the main thing .. cheers Hilary

    1. I'm so sorry about my friends in the UK and for the beautiful country and has been so drowned lately! We are well, and we are very grateful for these lovely days of warmth and sunshine.
