Small Pleasures

RVPainter informs me that the RV has only about 300 square feet of living space, not 400. No problem!! I will be a role model for efficient living. Harvard Business school will use me as a case study!!

So, just to be clear: that's not my closet full of shoes in the previous post :-)  Truth is, because I do yoga, teach yoga and work in a yoga studio, most of the time, I'm barefoot and that's how I like to be!! When I must wear shoes, clogs are my footwear of choice. And I like nice sandals and boots, but 2-inch heels are about as high as I can go now. So those aren't my shoes, but these ARE my nice socks that I bought yesterday:

Nice socks are among my favorite things. These are Smartwool socks that are warm and comfy and have nice padding for walks and hikes. I'm also very fond of the faux fur throw on which my socks are lying. Laying? I always have to look that up. Anyway, I got it at World Market with my 10% discount coupon. It feels like you are snuggling up with a very large kitten and it will add a touch of Posh when I'm lounging around the RV. Here's a better look at the throw:

I get all excited about things like socks and faux fur throws, and RV painter gets excited about things like a "Hose Y with Shut off," "O rings," and "Ground Fault Outlet Testers."  He says we need these in the RV. In case you have no idea what theyare, here's a picture.

I know. I still have no idea what they are either. Sometimes when RVPainter tells me about the tool thingys, my eyes glaze over. I hope you don't feel that way about my socks and throw!!

  1. Well DW - you could have gotten a close up photo so all these nice people could see some of my shopping bounty up close - I mean the water Y is PURE BRASS!!! How exciting is that!!!
Now I have to find some brass polish! :>)

  2. I wondered about those shoes! Those heels looked SO painful to me :) I'm really, really enjoying your talk about living in a small space, b/c there's a chance we may be living in an RV in the future too, and I'm wondering how in the world I'll squeeze everything in! I'm enjoying watching you go down that road before me. Cute socks! (And it's LYING. You use LAYING when you're laying something. But the socks aren't laying anything else down, they're just lying on their own. The confusion comes b/c the past tense of "lie" is "lay." Ugh.)

  4. I love furry throws, especially in winter. Great socks too. No doubt you'll stay nice and warm in 2012.

  5. M.K. Yes, you can watch us go through this first. And thanks for the lying/laying reminder. I think I'll think about chickens from now on, because we know they LAY eggs.

    Margo, these socks are yummy.

Andrea, the throw is really nice for napping. Which I love to do ...

  9. I would love to travel around in an RV. Unfortunately, Mrs. Penwasser isn't up for it. Too bad. Maybe I can talk her into it when our daughter leaves college in 2016.

  10. Al, the funniest thing is that it's everyone's dream but mine!! Honestly, I never wanted to move off the street I grew up on. But strangely, I am very excited about this. It feels freeing and fun and I am ready for freedom and fun. So, you never know - if I can want to do this - anyone can!

  13. Hi Melissa,

You and RV Painter have some pretty cool stuff...I love the socks and
I’m right into the "tool thingys" as you call them.

You and RV Painter might like my post on my trip to Home Depot!

Thanks for dropping by my blog and adding yourself as a follower...I am doing the same here!

    Cheers, Jenny @ PEARSON REPORT

  14. Jenny, I loved your Home Depot post. It made me think of the song from Flower Drum Song: "I enjoy being a girl" (a girl who can swing a hammer and has her own electric drill)

  15. Look at those socks! I am a big fan of socks and shoes that can be slipped on! I love your positive outlook about less space! Less to clean too! :) I love hearing about this process- as I hope to do it myself one day!

  16. Jess, I will have less space, but I will have lovely socks :-). Glad you'll come along on the adventure.

  17. Hey Melissa! I love socks, too. Especially the ones with the no-slip thingys on the bottom, because I'm a big enough clutz as it is....I don't need to add any more oportunities!

  18. Hi Melissa!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and chatting. Congratulations on your new RV, I will tune in with interest as you adapt to your space! We have a little conversion van, just big enough for 2 and the dog...for short trips only. When we retire we'll step up to something larger. Those socks are great. If you don't mind dropping a fair chunk of cash, check out Icebreaker. They make great merino wool socks! Maybe someday your little RV will roll into the Pacific Northwest, my neck of the woods!
    Cheers,
    Debora
